The Campaign for the
Brown School at Washington University

Faculty Support

Retaining distinguished faculty—and recruiting the next generation of promising scholar-educators—is essential to our continued growth and success. We are dedicated to creating and sharing new knowledge and to preparing and inspiring our students for leadership in their chosen professions and in their communities.

Supporting Our Faculty

We have a strong history of nurturing the careers of successful and talented scholars who make great impacts in their fields. To better position the School to recruit and retain talented scholars, we seek to:

  • Increase support for junior faculty research startups and rapid-response research funds
  • Create new endowed professorships—the highest honor a university can bestow upon faculty—as a means to attract and retain senior faculty.

Our faculty create knowledge, inform evidence-based practice, and mentor graduate students who will become the next generation of leaders in the field.

Investing in Excellence

Endowed professorships recognize extraordinary achievement both in the quality of teaching and the impact of scholarly research. Since our founding, alumni and friends have endowed nearly 400 professorships. They are the highest honor we can bestow on our faculty.

Endowment gifts also make it possible for faculty to establish research centers that attract other leading professors and graduate students and to enhance the stature of the university. Income from these permanently invested funds enable faculty to pursue studies that can have a lasting impact on society.

Because our international reputation for excellence rests upon the strength of our faculty, endowed professorships and research support are among the best ways to reward exceptional, innovative work; to advance research breakthroughs; and to attract and retain our finest teachers and scholars.
