The Campaign for the
Brown School at Washington University
Dean Mary M. McKay

Message from Mary M. McKay

Neidorff Family and Centene Corporation Dean of the Brown School

“In order to maintain and strengthen our leadership position, the Brown School must continue to chart an innovative course. Hillman Hall is one element of a larger initiative to produce innovative research and teaching that takes advantage of all the multiple disciplines, perspectives and talents we have assembled to lead advances in social justice. "

To Grow… by educating and preparing more social work and public health leaders of the future in areas of policy, practice and research.

Our faculty, staff and students are committed to having an impact and furthering social justice.

Our school is generating important social innovations in practice and policy as well as the leaders who will take on the most challenging and important roles in the country and around the world. They are our best long-term hope for improving economic opportunity, the well-being of families and communities, and populatio n health.

Today, the Brown School is recognized as a premier school of social work, consistently ranked at the top among its peers. Our public health program is already in the top tier in its field. Our faculty and alumni transform social service and community health systems through evidence-based approaches to policy and practice.

To Lead… by pioneering research and applying results to influence policy and practice locally, nationally and internationally.

In order to maintain and strengthen our leadership position, the Brown School must continue to chart a pioneering course. To that end, we have developed a plan that outlines significant program and facility enhancements—including an expansion project that provides a unified set of facilities for all Brown School programs and initiatives. Hillman Hall is one element of a larger initiative to produce innovative research and teaching that takes advantage of all the multiple disciplines, perspectives and talents we have assembled to lead advances in social justice. We know we can create an even greater impact with better opportunities for collaboration within the School, as well as with our outside community and global partners.

To Change…by creating positive social change in the lives of people in the St. Louis region and around the globe.

Across the globe, over 8,000 Brown School alumni are making an impact on the lives of individuals. As leaders in government, community organizations and entrepreneurial social and public health initiatives, this global network represents the opportunity for change in communities near and far.

The future success of the Brown School will be measured by our ability to Grow, to Lead, to Change.

To implement this ambitious plan, we must secure necessary resources. Leading Together: The Campaign for Washington University provides a framework for this work. Funds raised for the Brown School through the campaign will be used for facility expansion, scholarships, and faculty and program support. Ultimately, the School’s goal mirrors that of Leading Together: to enhance our leadership today to benefit America and the world tomorrow. Our success will create the next great era for the Brown School and ensure that we remain a catalyst for positive change.
